In September 2020, what began as a routine mammogram turned into a life-changing moment—I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was news no one ever wants to hear. Just two months later, I underwent surgery, and I’ll always be thankful for the exceptional care I received at the Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center and Ochsner Hospital.

Today, I’m proud to call myself a breast cancer survivor. But more than that, I feel a deep responsibility to support others who are walking this path. That’s what fuels our mission—standing beside women battling breast cancer with support, encouragement, and the reminder that they’re not alone.

One of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned is the importance of early detection. I was diagnosed because I went in for my mammogram on time. That timing made all the difference. Had I waited, my story could have taken another turn. That’s why raising awareness about early screening is at the heart of what we do—because early detection truly saves lives.

One especially meaningful part of this journey is our logo—it’s not just a symbol, it’s a personal treasure. My granddaughter, Charli, created it, and having her artwork represent our mission means the world to me. It’s a daily reminder that this work is about love, family, and leaving a legacy of hope and strength for future generations.

This journey also inspired me to blend two of my greatest passions: helping people and cooking gumbo. What began as a personal fight has become a community platform—to educate, uplift, and offer financial support to hardworking women facing breast cancer.
